My Ghetto Thanksgiving

I grew up in a very large family. We are simple folk, you have to be to feed that many people. The food was simple but tasty. Green bean casserole with French’s fried onions, sweet potatoes from a can dripping with melted marshmallows, cranberry sauce from the can to the table at the last minute because I’m the only one that eats it. I do bake the crescent rolls from scratch, make my own pie crust but I do use the Libby’s pumpkin pie recipe from the can of pumpkin.

This is the one time of year I look forward to – the best holiday ever! A feast of gluttony so sinful I could die after finishing the meal and be happy to spend eternity in hell working off the poundage. I have this fear of ruining the most wonderful holiday of the year by trying to jazz up the traditional dishes with something more fancy. Is it worth the risk and effort? Kids don’t care about fancy stuff, they will barely eat anyway. Hubs will eat something I make even if it sucks but he’s angling for sex. Will I regret making some fancy stuffing with apples and bacon instead of the doctored up stuffing from a bag? Will Thanksgiving be the same without the mushy green bean casserole? Is it worth the effort to make my own cranberry sauce hoping it doesn’t suck?

I’m at the very least thinking I should make my own stuffing this year. I have the week off, what excuse can I possibly have for not going to some extra effort on something? I am tormented the most over the green bean casserole, the simplest and lowest brow of all the dishes (and I’ve already been told I will be the only one eating it).

I also have to confess an undying love for pumpkin. This is the pumpkin time of year and I look forward to it much like a child looks forward to Christmas. I refuse to drink a pumpkin latté cuz that is just N.A.S.T.Y. but anything else with pumpkin in it has a chance of getting hoovered with me around. Pumpkin pie – my true Thanksgiving love affair exposed! Dare I take our relationship to the next level risking it all hoping to find a new and better experience? This is what torments me as I search thru recipes hoping to make a good showing this year.

I am considering this pumpkin pie recipe.

Will post pics of the food whatever it ends up being.

UPDATE: pics posted.

Homemade cranberry sauce, was a little too sweet but good texture.

I Want A Pink Thingamajig

So I found out about this new toy website today. You know, the kind of toys you don’t want your kid to find on Sunday morning when he gets up before you cuz you’re sleeping in and don’t want him to ask what it is but when he does you certaintly don’t want daddy to tell him it’s mommy’s as a total cop out so mommy then has to explain that it’s something for grownups and DON’T TOUCH IT!!

Anyway. So I pulled up this website on the iPhone on the way home from work. Well, you know how when you go to Safari the next time and the last site you viewed comes up? At dinner I was asked to look up something on the Internet and brought up Safari on the phone while father-in-law looked over my shoulder.

There was this website zoomed in on the last product I was checking out in all its glorious beauty.

I couldn’t get off that page fast enough. I’m hoping it looked to him like a pink USB thumb drive.

UPDATE: This is the image that was seen. NSFW you have been warned. (I was less concerned about the pink thing and more about the two rosebud-topped things it’s nestled between.)

The Day I Found New Music

So I’m in the mood for some music and I am poking around and following stuff I usually like with the “Listeners Also Bought” feature in iTunes and come across Thriving Ivory. I was instantly mezmerized by the voice of Clayton Stroope. I especially dig his high pitch capabilities on “Alien” and the softer parts of “Hey Lady” (pretty girls *do* need cowboys), reminds me of Freddy Mercury from Queen. And I’m a total sucker for a piano player in a band – that is the sexiest thing ever. I fell in love with “Hey Lady” instantly.

The photos on the web site show him having a pouty mouth but when he’s singing in the video he has quite a lovely mouth, particularly 3 mins in or so. He’s singing to me, I can tell.

Check them out. Let me know if you love it/hate it.

Piano player/writer (wait for it thru the ad or intro or whatever the heck that is, it’s worth it) if you are interested in more.
