Don’t Do It
When typing in the address bar of your your browser, be sure you include the dot between gmail and com. Safari 4 beta adds the dot-com, which is a nice feature. Thanks!

Just an FYI, both IE and FF (and probably Safari) will tack on the http://www. and the .com/ part if you hit ctrl-enter.
So all you have to do is type gmail ctrl-enter and it will finish it for you.
They also do .net if you hit shift-enter and .org if you hit ctrl-shift-enter.

On the other hand, gmailcom.com is pretty hawt.
